Educational opportunity

As a Governor of the local Primary School, Somerset agricultural advisor Stephen Harrison believes that Operation Bumblebee can play a valuable role in the science curriculum, and a great opportunity to get children positively engaged in the countryside and a better understanding of farming.

“The life of the Bumblebee is truly fascinating. From the numerical skills involved with counting bees and flowers, to the complex social interaction of bee colonies and their relationship with plants it brings the science lesson to life,” reports Mr Harrison.

“And if we get them out and into the Operation Bumblebee areas, they can’t help but be involved with learning about the crop alongside. We can show children and the influential teachers that farming and the environment can successfully co-exist side by side.”
